Ambitious HR plans often collide with day-to-day reality. Here are five deliberately modest resolutions, chosen because they are genuinely achievable and produce a visible effect within a quarter.
1. Measure three indicators, seriously
Rather than a twenty-indicator dashboard nobody ever finishes, pick three — for example time-to-hire, turnover by tenure, absenteeism rate — and track them every month without exception. One tracked indicator beats ten estimated ones.
2. Automate a single task
Pick your department's most frequent, most repetitive administrative task, and remove it from your teams' daily routine. A single, visible success builds more buy-in than a big announced project.
3. Structure onboarding
A written 30/60/90-day integration plan, applied to every new hire. It's one of the best-returning HR investments: it directly affects first-year retention.
4. Listen, with a short question
A two-question survey run every quarter gets more responses — and more truth — than a long annual questionnaire. The key is to actually act on it and tell your teams.
5. Document one process a month
Leave, onboarding, the annual review, departures: writing down in black and white how things work reduces recurring questions and protects the organisation when a key person is out.
