Net salary calculation Morocco employers apply in 2026 follows a fixed order: gross taxable salary, minus employee CNSS and AMO contributions, minus any CIMR share, minus the professional expenses allowance, then the IR (income tax) scale introduced by the 2025 finance act, and finally the family-charge reduction. As an illustration, a married employee with two children on 12,000 DH gross a month takes home 10,538.60 DH. Below are the full formula, the parameters in force, an end-to-end example and the mistakes that distort the result.
The net salary calculation Morocco formula in six steps
A net salary calculation Morocco payroll teams can rely on never applies a single percentage to gross pay. Each step depends on the previous one, and IR is charged on net taxable income, not on gross.
- Gross taxable salary: base pay, overtime, bonuses and benefits, minus the items exempted by Article 57 of the CGI (Code général des impôts, the Moroccan tax code), such as justified expense reimbursements.
- Employee contributions: CNSS (Caisse nationale de sécurité sociale, the social security fund) at 4.48% of salary capped at 6,000 DH a month, and AMO (assurance maladie obligatoire, compulsory health insurance) at 2.26% of the full salary.
- Supplementary pension: the employee CIMR share, if the company belongs to this scheme.
- Professional expenses: a flat allowance of 35% or 25% of gross taxable salary depending on income (see below).
- Gross IR: net taxable income × bracket rate − deduction amount; net IR = gross IR − family-charge reduction.
- Net salary = gross − CNSS − AMO − CIMR − net IR, then any deductions for advances or loans.
The professional expenses allowance reduces the IR base but is never deducted from the salary paid. This is the most common confusion in a manual net salary calculation Morocco employees attempt.
The 2026 parameters for a net salary calculation Morocco payroll
| Item | Rule in force | Since |
|---|---|---|
| Employee CNSS (short and long term) | 4.48% of salary capped at 6,000 DH a month, so 268.80 DH at most | Rates at 1 January 2024, unchanged in 2026 |
| Employee AMO | 2.26% of the full salary, no ceiling | Rates at 1 January 2024, unchanged in 2026 |
| Professional expenses | 35% if annual gross taxable income is 78,000 DH or less, 25% above, capped at 35,000 DH a year | 2023 finance act |
| IR scale | Exempt band up to 40,000 DH of annual net taxable income, top rate 37% | 1 January 2025, not changed by the 2026 finance act |
| Family charges | 600 DH a year per dependant (50 DH a month), capped at 3,600 DH a year | 1 January 2026 (2026 finance act) |
| CIMR (optional) | Employee rate chosen by the company, from 3% to 12% in the CIMR Al Kamil product | CIMR schedule consulted in 2026 |
The monthly IR scale (2025 reform)
The legal scale is annual (Article 73 of the CGI). For a monthly net salary calculation Morocco payroll divides the brackets and deduction amounts by 12.
| Monthly net taxable income | Rate | Deduction amount |
|---|---|---|
| 0 to 3,333.33 DH | 0% | 0 |
| 3,333.34 to 5,000 DH | 10% | 333.33 DH |
| 5,000.01 to 6,666.67 DH | 20% | 833.33 DH |
| 6,666.68 to 8,333.33 DH | 30% | 1,500 DH |
| 8,333.34 to 15,000 DH | 34% | 1,833.33 DH |
| Above 15,000 DH | 37% | 2,283.33 DH |
The annual brackets are 40,000, 60,000, 80,000, 100,000 and 180,000 DH. The deduction-amount method gives exactly the same result as a bracket-by-bracket calculation, in a single line.
Professional expenses: 35% or 25%
The rate depends on annual gross taxable income, excluding cash or in-kind benefits. Up to 78,000 DH a year (6,500 DH a month) the allowance is 35%. Above that it drops to 25%, capped at 35,000 DH a year, or 2,916.67 DH a month. The cap is reached from roughly 11,667 DH of monthly gross.
Net salary calculation Morocco example: 12,000 DH gross
For this net salary calculation Morocco example, take a manager paid 12,000 DH gross a month, with no exempt items, married with two dependent children (three people giving entitlement to the reduction), in a company that is not a CIMR member.
| Line | Calculation | Monthly amount |
|---|---|---|
| Gross taxable salary | — | 12,000.00 DH |
| Employee CNSS | 6,000 × 4.48% | − 268.80 DH |
| Employee AMO | 12,000 × 2.26% | − 271.20 DH |
| Professional expenses | 25% × 12,000 = 3,000, capped | − 2,916.67 DH |
| Net taxable income | 12,000 − 268.80 − 271.20 − 2,916.67 | 8,543.33 DH |
| Gross IR | 8,543.33 × 34% − 1,833.33 | 1,071.40 DH |
| Family charges | 3 × 50 DH | − 150.00 DH |
| Net IR | 1,071.40 − 150 | 921.40 DH |
| Net salary | 12,000 − 268.80 − 271.20 − 921.40 | 10,538.60 DH |
On an annual basis the result is identical: 102,520 DH of net taxable income, 12,856.80 DH of gross IR, a 1,800 DH family reduction and 11,056.80 DH of net IR, or 921.40 DH a month.
Variant: the same employee in the CIMR scheme
If the company belongs to CIMR with a 6% employee rate on the full salary, the deduction is 720 DH. It is deductible from the IR base: net taxable income falls to 7,823.33 DH, in the 30% bracket. Gross IR becomes 847 DH, net IR 697 DH and net pay 10,043 DH. The supplementary pension costs the employee 720 DH but cuts their tax by 224.40 DH.
Variant: a 5,000 DH salary
At 5,000 DH gross (60,000 DH a year) the allowance rises to 35%: CNSS 224 DH, AMO 113 DH, professional expenses 1,750 DH, net taxable income 2,913 DH. That is below 3,333.33 DH, so IR is zero and net pay is 4,663 DH.
From net to gross: reversing the calculation
Candidates often negotiate in net terms while employers budget in gross. The reverse calculation is not a simple rule of three, because the CNSS ceiling, the change in the professional expenses rate and the IR brackets make the relationship non-linear. The reliable method is to start from an estimated gross, compute the net, then adjust by iteration until you reach the target net, which is exactly what a simulator or payroll engine does in milliseconds. Remember employer cost too: employer contributions come on top of gross, and our guide to CNSS contributions in Morocco breaks them down branch by branch.
Common net salary calculation Morocco mistakes
- Using the old scale: exempt band at 30,000 DH and a 38% top rate, in force until the end of 2024.
- Keeping 500 DH per dependant instead of 600 DH since 1 January 2026.
- Forgetting the CNSS ceiling above 6,000 DH, or wrongly applying it to AMO, which has none.
- Computing professional expenses after contributions: they are computed on gross taxable salary.
- Deducting professional expenses from net pay: they only serve to compute IR.
- Taxing justified expense reimbursements, or exempting bonuses that are taxable.
- Miscalculating the seniority bonus, which is added to gross; its rules are set out in our guide to the payslip in Morocco.
Special cases in a net salary calculation Morocco
Bonuses, meal vouchers and exempt items
Allowances that reimburse expenses actually incurred (travel, assignments, entertaining) are exempt up to the justified amount. Meal vouchers are exempt up to 40 DH per day worked, within 20% of gross taxable salary, under Article 57 of the CGI. Any excess goes back into taxable gross.
Minimum wage salaries
At minimum wage level IR is zero, but contributions remain due. The detailed calculation is in our article on the minimum wage in Morocco.
Leaving, dismissal and final settlement
The final payslip mixes taxable items (notice, untaken leave) and amounts that are exempt within limits. See our guide to severance pay in Morocco.
Joining or leaving mid-month
Salary is prorated, but the monthly scale applies to the month’s income. Well-run payroll regularises IR at year end or on departure using cumulative totals, which then feed the 9421 return due before 1 March.
Making the calculation reliable every month
For one employee a spreadsheet is enough. For fifty, every finance act, every back-pay adjustment and every one-off bonus multiplies the risk. To estimate a cost or a saving quickly, use Socium’s free simulators. For real payroll, payroll software for Morocco applies the IR scale, the CNSS ceiling, both professional expenses rates and CIMR without re-keying, produces payslips and prepares the Damancom and SIMPL-IR filings. The full monthly cycle is described in our guide to payroll management in Morocco.
Frequently asked questions
What is the overall deduction rate in a net salary calculation Morocco?
There is no fixed rate. Social contributions take 6.74% of gross up to 6,000 DH, then a falling share above that because of the CNSS ceiling. IR depends on net taxable income and family situation. In our 12,000 DH example, net pay is about 87.8% of gross.
Is a net salary calculation Morocco done monthly or annually?
IR is an annual tax withheld at source each month using the scale divided by 12. Both methods give the same result for a stable salary; when pay varies, an annual regularisation corrects the differences.
Is overtime taxable?
Yes. It is paid at the premiums set by Article 201 of the Labour Code (25% from 6 am to 9 pm, 50% from 9 pm to 6 am, rising to 50% and 100% on the weekly rest day), then subject to contributions and IR like salary.
Which official source should I check?
Contribution rates are published by CNSS and reproduced by CLEISS; the IR scale is in Article 73 of the CGI published by the DGI (tax administration).
Key takeaways
- A net salary calculation Morocco runs through CNSS and AMO, CIMR, professional expenses, the IR scale and family charges.
- 2025 IR scale: exempt up to 40,000 DH a year, top rate 37%.
- Since 2026: a 600 DH reduction per dependant, capped at 3,600 DH a year.
- Professional expenses reduce IR, not the salary paid.
- Example: 12,000 DH gross gives 10,538.60 DH net for a married employee with two children.
